Shockwave therapy and chiropractic

Do you suffer from heel spurs, tendon inflammation, bursitis in shoulder or hip, tennis elbows, shin complaints, shin plints and muscle strain? Do the complaints come in waves or does the pain keep returning? These complaints, whether or not chronic in nature, of shoulders, knees, elbows and feet can be treated well by treatments with shockwave therapy. Calcifications can also disappear after just a few shockwave treatments. Our chiropractors use ultrasound to identify the cause of the problem.

Shockwave therapy has been applied by our chiropractors for several years now. The secretary of the Dutch Association for Musculoskeletal Shockwave Therapy (NVMST), says that the effect has now been proven. “International research shows that this new therapy is effective for complaints that are sometimes difficult to treat with other therapies. These research results correspond to the extensive experience that has already been gained in various practices in the Netherlands. Often patients with chronic complaints have already been treated, without temporary or permanent success. Shockwave therapy increases the chance of recovery by up to 85%. Exceptionally high,” says Evers.

Specialized shockwave therapy

First, the chiropractor conducts an examination to determine the cause of the pain. He can use the ultrasound equipment for this. The outcome determines whether the patient is eligible for treatment with shockwave therapy. This localizes the area of pain and traces the source.

The shockwave treatment

Then the painful area is treated with the shockwave treatment head. This head gives powerful vibrations that stimulate the body to heal. “They are pressure waves from the outside, which are applied via a treatment head. The vibrations activate the body's own healing power,” explains Evers. In an average of four to five shockwave treatments, the patient is rid of most complaints. Treatment with shockwave therapy is sometimes sensitive, but can be done without anaesthetic. Optimal results can be achieved by combining the chiropractic treatment technique supplemented with shockwave therapy.
